Asbestos Garage Roof Transformation in Leicester - January 2025 - Excel Roofing & Asbestos Ltd Skip to main content

Some jobs are all about precision, timing, and having the right team on site. That was the case for a recent job in Leicestershire, where we were called out to remove and replace an asbestos garage roof on a single-slope structure tucked between a house and an outbuilding.

With clear instructions and limited access, this was a job that demanded speed without cutting corners – and we delivered the full removal and cleanup in just four hours, from arrival to final inspection.

The Challenge: Compact Space, Quick Turnaround

The client had contacted us after spotting visible degradation in their garage roof – flaking edges, damp streaks, and signs of general fatigue in the asbestos cement sheets. The roof sloped gently down from the main house wall towards a small outbuilding, making it a typical single-pitch design.

The surrounding area didn’t allow for much room to manoeuvre, and with the customer needing the garage ready for a delivery later that afternoon, timing was everything.

Rapid-Response Asbestos Removal

We arrived early with a compact crew, prepped with everything needed for streamlined removal. With the garage cleared in advance by the client, we laid down protective sheeting and erected a short containment screen at the rear, shielding the neighbouring outbuilding.

Wearing full asbestos PPE, our operatives dampened the roof surface and removed each sheet carefully, ensuring intact handling to reduce fibre disturbance. The sheets were passed down safely and secured for disposal.

What made the job efficient was the planning – materials were pre-labelled, equipment was optimised for tight working space, and team coordination meant zero downtime. The actual removal phase took just over two hours.

Post-Removal Cleanup & Certification

Once the roof was off, we cleaned the timber framework with H-class vacuums and sealed any minor splinters or debris. A full site inspection followed, including checks along the access route and beneath the sheeted area to confirm no contamination had spread.

We provided the client with a waste consignment note, photo documentation of the clean roofline, and confirmation that the site met post-removal safety standards.

No Replacement Needed – Just a Safe Blank Canvas

In this case, the customer had opted to delay the new roof installation until later in the month, so our task was focused solely on safe asbestos removal and leaving the structure clean, stable, and ready for the next phase.
